When I’m recruiting for senior roles in plastics, I expect sharp questions. The best candidates always ask them.

When I’m working on a roles paying $150,000 to $200,000 or higher, I’m talking to people who’ve built their careers on asking good questions. They’re sharp. They don’t waste time.

If you can’t answer their questions, you lose credibility fast.

They’ll ask about reporting structure, career progression, product mix, team size, and financial stability. They’ll want to know how the company handled the last downturn, how bonuses are structured, and whether leadership actually invests in growth.

Once in a while, I’ll say, “That’s a great question. I’ll find out.” That’s fine. But if it happens five times in one call, I lose them.

That’s why I make sure I know the story before I ever call a candidate. When I can answer everything clearly, they listen. They stay engaged. And when they go into an interview and hear the same things from the hiring manager, it confirms everything I’ve said.

That consistency matters. It builds trust between all sides: the company, the recruiter, and the candidate.

The opposite happens when messages don’t match. When candidates hear something different in the interview than what I told them, they start wondering what else isn’t true.

The best recruiting processes are built on alignment. Everyone tells the same story because everyone understands it.
