With a brand new state of the art facility, my client is poised for growth and needs someone to head up the charge to gain market share. The new Director of Sales & Marketing needs to have injection molding or extrusion experience and understand those markets in order to guide the sales force through them. Someone with a mechanical aptitude is needed in order to help customers solve their problems. Plant Controller – SE Ohio

My client is a very profitable and well-established plastics manufacturer which has several locations throughout North America. They are aggressively growing both by acquisition and by organic growth. They have retained me to help them find a Plant Controller for their manufacturing location in southeast Ohio.

This position is also responsible for directing the financial activities for another small plant located in the South. The Plant Controller reports to the CFO but works very closely with the Plant Management team. Travel is required to corporate headquarters, to the other plant and other locations at times.

Senior Technical Manager – Injection Molding

My client is a very profitable and well-established North American injection molder (primarily rigid packaging) that is experiencing significant growth. Much of this growth is due to acquisitions and they plan to keep on strategically acquiring other competitors. Due to this growth, they are adding a new Senior-level position called a Senior Technical Manager and have retained me to help them find this person.

This position will report to the VP of Operations. The Senior Technical Manager can be located anywhere in the country and will travel to the different plant locations as needed. They will be responsible for building their own team around them that will help make the company’s plants more efficient. This could entail moving machinery to other plants or standardizing manufacturing processes to improve productivity at all the plants.

This person will also be responsible for standardizing manufacturing processes at future plants that are acquired. This new team will be heavily involved in EH&S, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality and work with the different Plant management teams at all the locations.

The qualified person should have the following skills: • Strong technical knowledge of Injection Molding • Experience in managing multiple sites, projects and teams • Ability to work with different cultures within North America

Regional Sales Manager – Injection Molding

My client is a well-established European based manufacturer of auxiliary equipment to the plastic injection molding industry. They have a reputation for producing a high quality product with their US headquarters located in Charlotte, NC.

They have retained me to help them find a Regional Sales Manager that could be located anywhere from Michigan to Georgia. My client is well-known throughout Europe but not as well-known in North America. They have been experiencing significant growth here in the US and are adding on to its Sales staff. This position will require someone to work from home and travel as needed.  The qualified candidate could be coming from the following areas:  resin, injection mold builders, injection molding machinery manufacturers, auxiliary equipment.

This position will require someone to call on the injection molding industry and to have a technical understanding of the plastic injection molding process. My client is a very profitable flexible packaging company that dominates its’ niche globally.  They have retained me to help them find a Manager of Product and Process Improvement to join their team.  We are looking for someone that has experience in plastic film and ideally the lamination of plastic film, paper and foil.  Experience in printing would be a plus.

This person will report to the Director of Technology and work with all the areas of the company in helping develop new products, redesign existing products and cost reduction initiatives.

Job Description:  The Manager of Product and Process Improvement is responsible for the identification and implementation of cost reduction and new product initiatives as outline within corporate strategic goals through the use of Lean Six Sigma methodologies, materials research, process and product design techniques to drive continual improvements in Safety, Quality, Process Productivity, and new and existing Product Design.

Organizational Structure:  The Manager of Product and Process Improvement reports to the Vice President of Technology.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Teamwork:

  • Partner and work closely with departments and functional leaders to understand and identify needs and opportunities to increase sales, reduce internal and material cost and understand customer and market/industry needs.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the planning, development and execution of key programs and/or projects that will result in meeting established focused goals as identified and approved through the FAT process.
  • Partner corporate wide to assist sister divisions with cost and/or product initiatives as a worldwide resource to develop effective cost reduction and efficiency plans.

Product and Materials Research:

  • Stay current on new and existing technologies and materials that will contribute in meeting cost reduction and design goals.
  • Attend industry conferences and educational seminars along with staying current through industry periodicals on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Test and evaluate new materials and processes for functional utilization.

Product and Process Design:

  • Research and evaluate potential materials that can meet design and/or cost savings goals as identified by customer, market and industry needs.
  • Communicate findings, cost, benefits and negatives through analytical use of process models and cost justification.
  • Justify capital needs to support design and process concepts.
  • Implement material and design concepts once approved.
  • Collaborate with third party resources to incorporate technologies and expertise.
  • Lead cross functional teams to implement new design and process concepts.

Training:

  • Internal
    • Develop training programs that based on new process or material procedures.
    • Train departments in new design and/or process procedures and methodologies.
  • External
    • Attend industry conferences.
    • Participate in continual educational programs.

Operations:

  • Identify, justify and implement cost saving initiatives through Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Lead cross functional teams to implement new processes.
  • Develop appropriate work and process instructions to meet changing requirements within the process.
  • Train operations staff as part of process implementation.

Cost Analysis:

  • Develop cost and ROI models to communicate and justify capital investment and return on investment.

Educational Requirements

Education:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in science, technology or engineering discipline.   Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma Methodologies is a plus.

Experience:

Prior leadership position in product or process design with expertise in the converting industry.  Cost justification and ROI experience needed.  Operational and sales experience is a plus.  Ability to identify and troubleshoot actual and potential problems is a must.  Ability to communicate and present ideas is also a must both internally and in front of customers.  Ability to lead cross functional teams.
